Logistics Management Institute is looking for a Data Science Intern to join our team. This role focuses on analyzing complex processes from an enterprise perspective and developing solutions using mathematical models and simulation tools for our government clients.
What You'll Do
- Analyze complex processes from an enterprise perspective.
- Assess operations, identify opportunities for enhancement, and develop solutions.
- Evaluate alternative concepts using mathematical models, simulation tools, and supply chain theory.
- Document functional capability requirements for subsequent use as the basis for software development.
- Conduct and document results from functional software tests.
- Perform studies and analyses and generate technical documentation of the results.
- Create and present briefings to communicate findings and recommendations.
What We're Looking For
- Current enrollment in a degree seeking program.
- Availability to work full-time for at least 10-12 weeks during summer 2026, starting in May/June 2026.
- Pursuing a major in Engineering, Modeling & Simulation, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Math, Operations Research, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Basic proficiency with a variety of data analysis tools, spreadsheets, and database programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to compose and write a variety of internal and external documents, reports, and presentations.
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills required, with ability to develop and maintain professional relationships within LMI and with its clients.
- Ability to contribute to a professional work environment by demonstrating integrity, promoting teamwork, and fostering positive communication.
- Strong problem solving, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Strong planning skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize assignments with minimum supervision. Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Experience with Visual Basic for Applications and Java is highly desirable.
- Programming experience—ability to program and learn new programming languages quickly.
