Ornge is hiring a Critical Care Paramedics

As a Critical Care Paramedic, you will deliver high-level emergency care to patients in critical condition during air and, in select regions, ground transport. Your primary responsibility is to assess, treat, and stabilize individuals facing life-threatening or urgent medical situations, ensuring safe and timely transfer between healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments for trauma, cardiac events, respiratory failure, poisoning, and other acute medical conditions
  • Deliver advanced pre-hospital interventions including oxygen therapy, CPR, IV access, and management of airway and circulation
  • Perform advanced airway techniques and operate mechanical ventilators to support respiratory function
  • Initiate and monitor medication infusions and administer blood or blood products as required
  • Provide specialized care for high-risk obstetrical and neonatal patients
  • Operate and maintain intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) systems for cardiovascular support
  • Ensure all emergency equipment and supplies are functional, sanitized, and ready for use
  • Document patient status, medical findings, and treatments administered with precision
  • Coordinate with dispatch teams, hospital personnel, and other medical providers to ensure seamless care transitions
  • Follow established medical directives and organizational policies to maintain clinical and operational standards
  • Support the organization’s mission by upholding its core principles and strategic goals

Required Competencies

You must be proficient in emergency medical procedures, including trauma assessment, spinal immobilization, splinting, and bandaging. Experience with pharmaceutical infusions, ventilation systems, and blood product administration is essential. You must also demonstrate strong documentation practices and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare network.
