Horizon Recovery is looking for a Cost Accountant to play a key role in supporting the financial health of our commercial electrical construction projects. This in-office position works closely with the Project Management team to monitor job costs, track budgets, analyze variances, and ensure accurate financial reporting throughout each project’s life cycle.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with Project Managers to develop and maintain detailed project budgets and forecasts.
- Track and analyze all job costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Review project billing and revenue recognition to ensure compliance with company and contract standards.
- Prepare monthly job cost reports and variance analyses for management review.
- Participate in monthly job cost meetings to review performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Reconcile project costs with general ledger accounts and ensure data accuracy across financial systems.
- Monitor project change orders, ensuring accurate documentation, pricing, and budget adjustments.
- Assist in preparing Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and monthly financial statements.
- Support internal and external audits with detailed cost documentation and reconciliations.
- Continuously evaluate and improve cost tracking methods, accounting processes, and financial controls.
- Maintain accurate records of purchasing, vendor contracts, and committed costs related to each project.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of cost accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of construction job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as CMIC, Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Timberline), or similar platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to create and interpret complex spreadsheets.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial team members.
Nice to Have
- Cost accounting experience in the construction or electrical contracting industry.
- CPA or CMA certification.
