Lear Corporation is hiring a Controls & Automation Engineer to join our Automation team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading, supporting, and implementing automation projects while driving innovation and developing standards across our North American operations.
What You'll Do
- Lead, support, implement, and manage automation projects.
- Develop concepts, aid in mechanical-electrical design, install, train plant personnel, and provide ongoing support for robotic cells.
- Act as a project lead and subject matter expert for other integrators.
- Design and develop all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and programming using Lear standards.
- Write, implement, and debug PLC software.
- Develop contingency and disaster recovery plans.
- Support the installation, launch, and production of all cells.
- Support the implementation of both proven and newly developed advanced automation.
- Document and use existing control standards to develop requirements for automated cells.
- Mentor and train plant controls engineers and support production as needed.
- Communicate across cross-functional groups.
- Support Kaizen events, improvement walks, and error-proofing projects.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and/or Software Engineering.
- 5-15 years of experience in a similar role.
- Expert-level proficiency in RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio5000, and FactoryTalk View Studio.
- Ability to navigate and interpret structured text programming languages like Visual Basic, C++, C#, and Python.
- Knowledge of I/O link, AB components, drive control, Keyence cameras, and industrial networking.
- Understanding of and ability to communicate applicable safety standards: general industry (OSHA 1910), machine guarding, robot safety (ANSI/RIA 15.06), automated vehicles, and conveyor safety.
- Experience as a supporting member of Risk Assessments on automated equipment.
- Ability to read and create electrical drawings in AutoCAD.
- Experience coordinating and managing control systems.
- Experience with communication to external manufacturing system/MES and OPC.
- Experience with SCADA systems.
- Must be a creative thinker, results-oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy.
- Self-driven with a willingness to work long hours during installations, if required.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time.
Nice to Have
- Fanuc and Universal Robotics programming experience or a basic understanding of robotics.
- Basic experience with vision systems for guiding robots and offsets.
- Experience with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV/AMR).
