Horizon Recovery is looking for a Controller to manage all financial operations across a complex multi-entity structure. You will oversee accounting for 3 operating companies and more than 40 real estate entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate quarterly financial statements for all entities in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate and oversee year-end tax preparation with external accountants across all entities.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes for multiple entities simultaneously.
- Maintain separate books and records for each entity while ensuring consistency in accounting policies.
- Supervise and mentor the bookkeeper, providing guidance and delegating tasks effectively.
- Review and approve work completed by accounting staff.
- Post accounts payable and receivable transactions across all entities, ensuring proper coding and classification.
- Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for all entities.
- Track and properly allocate shared expenses across entities.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process across all entities and coordinate with department heads.
- Project and monitor cash flow across operating and real estate entities to ensure adequate liquidity.
- Provide consolidated and entity-level cash management recommendations to leadership.
- Manage complex intercompany transactions and notes between 40+ entities, ensuring proper documentation and reconciliation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets across all entities.
- Seamlessly navigate between the 3 operating companies and 40+ real estate entities daily.
- Maintain organizational systems to track deadlines, requirements, and activities across all entities.
- Coordinate entity-specific compliance requirements and reporting deadlines.
What We're Looking For
- Progressive accounting experience.
- Proven experience managing accounting for multiple legal entities (10+ entities preferred).
- Experience with real estate accounting and property management financials strongly preferred.
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.
- Solid understanding of budgeting and cash flow management across multiple entities.
- Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities across numerous entities.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume, complex environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Nice to Have
- CPA certification.
- Experience with Rentmanager & QuickBooks.
- Experience managing consolidated financial reporting for multiple entities.
- Knowledge of tax preparation and planning for real estate entities.
- Experience managing intercompany accounting in a multi-entity environment (40+ entities highly valued).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Understanding of real estate partnership structures, K-1 preparation, and property-level accounting.
- Experience with entity management software or multi-entity ERP systems.
- Background in real estate investment, development, or property management.
