The Ohio State University - John Glenn College of Public Affairs is hiring a Continuing Education Consultant

About the Role

Guide and expand a comprehensive forestry Extension program focused on empowering forest landowners and natural resources professionals throughout Ohio. You will design and deliver adult education initiatives, create accessible learning materials, and lead outreach efforts that promote sustainable woodland management.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, coordinate, and assess educational programming in forest management tailored to adult learners
  • Create and maintain digital content, including websites, webinars, and online resources
  • Co-lead the Ohio Woodland Stewards Program, supporting private landowners and professionals in responsible forest stewardship
  • Produce publications, fact sheets, and presentations on topics such as silviculture, tree identification, forest ecology, and invasive species
  • Collaborate with partner Extension programs to integrate forestry content into broader natural resource education efforts
  • Support programming at Ohio State Mansfield’s Ecolab, a living laboratory for forest management practices
  • Manage federal funding under the Renewable Resource Extension Act, including planning, distribution, and reporting
  • Represent Ohio in regional and multi-state initiatives, building partnerships with professional organizations and Extension networks
  • Identify emerging needs and opportunities in forestry education through engagement with stakeholders and industry groups

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of six years of hands-on experience managing woodlands
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver educational programs or curriculum
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to assist private landowners with forest management planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8–12 years of relevant forestry or natural resources experience
  • Advanced degree in forestry or a closely related field
  • Experience working with Extension or outreach-focused programs
  • Background in digital content development and online education platforms
