UNESCO is looking for a Consultant to support the implementation and monitoring of activities for documentary heritage under the Memory of the World Programme. You will join the Documentary Heritage Unit to coordinate initiatives, contribute to digital preservation, and enhance global access to cultural heritage.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate activities under initiatives funded by the Republic of Korea, including follow-up for the 'Support to the Amadou Hampaté Bâ Foundation' project and the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize.
- Liaise with UNESCO officers and project beneficiaries, follow up on implementation, and provide technical backstopping.
- Review and refine activities, proposing adjustments to programmatic and financial plans as needed.
- Collect information on implementation and produce reports, analytical notes, and high-visibility materials.
- Liaise with authorities of the Republic of Korea regarding project implementation and results.
- Contribute to work on digital heritage, including software source code, with partners KISTI and Inria.
- Support the organization of the Software Heritage Symposium.
- Ensure the Memory of the World database is regularly updated for mailing lists and websites.
- Contribute to updates of the MoW website, particularly sections for the International Register and Committees.
- Contribute to the preparation of the Unit’s briefings, reports, background papers, strategy documents, and communications.
- Produce a monthly report on activities undertaken and progress of work.
What We're Looking For
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in information, communication, archival science, records management, or a related discipline including history, archaeology, sociology, or heritage studies.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience in project implementation in the field of cultural heritage, archives or library science, with at least 1 year at the international level.
- Experience in compilation and drafting high-quality analytical and project progress reports.
- Experience in developing and implementing communication outreach strategies for wider dissemination of project outcomes and organizational visibility at the international level.
- Experience focused on communication and information in project implementation in the field of cultural heritage, archives or library science, or the communication and information sector in other organizations.
- Excellent organizational, coordination and interpersonal skills.
- Very good analytical, drafting and editing skills in English with the ability to produce quality reports and news items for international organizations.
- Excellent skills to disseminate project achievements worldwide.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team and maintain effective working relations in a multicultural environment.
- Proven ability to communicate, advocate, and exchange with colleagues, staff and stakeholders within and outside the Organization.
- Excellent IT skills. Knowledge of graphic design software (Canva, in-design, etc.).
- Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of French.
Nice to Have
- Experience with the United Nations System or in an international development cooperation.
- Relevant professional experience in UNESCO’s programmes and/or normative tools in the field of communication and information.
- Experience in documentary heritage preservation projects.
- Familiarity with the Memory of the World Programme, including the 2015 Recommendations Concerning the Preservation of, and Access to, Documentary Heritage Including in Digital Form.
Team & Environment
You will work under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information and the direct supervision of the Head of the Documentary Heritage Unit.
Work Mode
This is a local, city-based position located in Paris.
