The Construction Superintendent will oversee and manage all on-site construction activities for Oil & Gas (O&G) projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards. This role demands extensive O&G sector experience, strong leadership, and a commitment to safety and project execution excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead by Example: Champion the company's Safety Culture and ensure all personnel adhere strictly to the project's SHE plan, regulatory requirements, and client standards.
- Inspections and Audits: Conduct daily site safety inspections, Toolbox Talks, and regular safety audits.
- Incident Management: Promptly report, investigate, and document all safety incidents, near-misses, and property damage, implementing corrective actions.
- Permit Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the project's Permit-to-Work (PTW) system.
- Supervision: Directly supervise and coordinate all construction, sub-contractor, and vendor activities, including civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical work.
- Schedule Management: Manage the project schedule, ensuring milestones are met. Identify potential delays and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- Resource Allocation: Optimize the allocation and use of labor, equipment, and materials.
- Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Work closely with the QA/QC team to ensure work is performed in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry codes (e.g., API, ASME).
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, and documentation of field changes, inspections, and testing.
- Team Leadership: Provide effective leadership, motivation, and direction to the entire construction workforce.
- Communication: Act as the primary on-site liaison between construction crews, engineering, project management, and the client representatives.
- Subcontractor Management: Oversee and manage subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with scopes of work and safety standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in large-scale industrial construction projects, with at least 5 years in a Superintendent role specifically on Oil & Gas facilities (e.g., refineries, pipelines, compression stations, LNG plants, or processing facilities).
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR) are mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.
- Trade certifications or professional designations are a plus.
