Role Overview
This position supports the Conservation Innovation team in driving forward conservation finance projects and expanding strategic opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Manager of International Programs, the role blends project coordination, external engagement, and analytical thinking to help shape innovative approaches to environmental resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage project workflows using tools like Asana, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and responsibilities are clearly tracked and communicated
- Document meetings, capture action items, and follow up to maintain progress across initiatives
- Assist in designing project plans, including milestones, resource needs, and implementation pathways for new ventures
- Facilitate collaboration across internal teams—science, finance, project development, and communications—to align on shared goals
- Monitor developments in conservation finance, carbon markets, and ecosystem services to inform strategy and identify emerging opportunities
- Develop clear, audience-appropriate materials such as pitch decks, funding proposals, and partnership summaries
- Translate complex technical and financial concepts into accessible content for diverse stakeholders
- Plan and support workshops, partner meetings, and working sessions that connect science, finance, and on-the-ground implementation
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including government agencies, utilities, corporations, Tribal Nations, and conservation organizations
- Support international expansion by evaluating new geographies and business development prospects
- Research and assess conservation finance models to inform innovation in funding, benefit streams, and project scalability
- Conduct economic analysis to evaluate project feasibility and support business case development
- Apply first-principles thinking to uncover assumptions and identify pathways for advancing early-stage initiatives
- Help manage the team’s opportunity pipeline, contributing to stage-gate evaluations based on mission fit and practical viability
Qualifications
Candidates should have at least four years of experience in business development, project management, conservation finance, environmental policy, or related fields. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to distill complex topics into clear memos, presentations, and summaries. Experience in public speaking and managing multiple workstreams with precision is required. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker passionate about solving complex environmental challenges and skilled at building relationships across diverse groups.
Preferred Background
- Knowledge of market-based conservation strategies such as payments for ecosystem services, carbon finance, or public-private partnerships
- Experience engaging with utilities, government entities, corporate sustainability teams, or Tribal governments
- Exposure to financial or economic modeling, including project feasibility assessments
- Degree in a natural or social science discipline
- Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role open to candidates in the Western U.S. or the Washington D.C. area, with flexibility for remote work and up to 50% travel. The position uses Asana and related tools for project tracking and team coordination.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $92,000 – $110,000
