Fives Stein (Steel & Glass Division) is hiring a Commissioning Controls Engineer to drive the on-site success of our automated equipment. You will be responsible for preparing, installing, debugging, and validating systems at customer facilities, acting as the key technical interface between internal engineering teams and our clients to ensure a smooth transition from software design to field commissioning.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with the Controls Engineering team to deliver software project phases on time and within budget.
- Serve as the primary interface between Software Engineering, Project Management, Service, and the Customer, ensuring alignment and clear communication.
- Ensure software design completeness and accuracy prior to power‑on to reduce debugging time and improve startup efficiency.
- Execute a full handoff of software deliverables to the Validation Team, including all required documentation and templates.
- Design, implement, and support control software programming for PLC, HMI, Vision Systems, Motion Control, and Robotics.
- Perform start‑up and debug of equipment installations, stepping into roles as both a Controls Engineer and a Site Supervisor.
- Provide on‑site and remote technical support for the Sales and Aftermarket Teams as required.
- Maintain clear communication with the Project Manager as the single point of contact for all project-related equipment and controls requirements.
- For warranty work, communicate effectively with the Aftermarket Director, Aftermarket Team, and other Technicians.
- Directly support the customer during installation, commissioning, debug, and acceptance‑testing to ensure satisfaction.
- Supervise and lead all assigned controls contractors during project installation, start‑up, debug, and service activities.
- Manage all field service reports for assigned projects, including reports from any onsite contractors.
- Secure formal customer approval and sign‑off for all completed work.
- Maintain professional and effective communication with the customer throughout the start‑up process.
What We're Looking For
- 4 - 7 years of experience in automation controls for the automotive industry.
- Several years of software experience with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC and HMI platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Motion Controls, including different types of Servo Drives and Variable Frequency Drives.
- Practical knowledge of Industrial Networks such as Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Profinet, and Remote I/O.
- Significant plant floor experience is required.
- Organized, detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience interfacing with Fanuc and/or ABB robots, including hands‑on programming and debug.
- Experience with Cognex and/or Keyence vision systems, including hands‑on setup.
