M&T Bank is seeking a Commercial Credit Senior Associate, CRE to play a pivotal role in assessing and managing credit risk for commercial real estate clients. In this client-facing position, you will be the critical link between Relationship Managers and credit risk management, analyzing financial statements, monitoring portfolios, and ensuring compliance with policies to facilitate sound lending.

What You'll Do

Focus on transaction execution and portfolio management, partnering with senior team members on complex transactions.
Facilitate customer credit needs by underwriting new requests and material modifications from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan.
Manage the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities.
Review all pertinent credit and financial information, including financial statements, tax returns, due diligence reports, and industry research.
Analyze financial information and complete credit analyses for the Bank’s commercial transactions.
Make appropriate structure recommendations based on an analysis and evaluation of scenarios including the company's case, bank's base case, and a downside case.
Identify suspicious activity or activity contrary to a customer's interest as part of ongoing portfolio risk management.
Partner proactively with Relationship Managers throughout the deal process, from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan.
Prepare cash flow models, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, and guarantor statement analysis.
Attend client calls with Relationship Managers to gain a thorough understanding of the business to effectively underwrite proposed transactions.
Prepare summaries, present facts, and offer opinions concerning credit-worthiness, assisting in loan structure where appropriate.
Ensure credit policy compliance by verifying adherence of underwriting to the Commercial Credit Policy.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit points and regulatory issues.
Contribute to the development and training of junior or newly hired Analysts.

What We're Looking For

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field and 5 years of experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis, or other financial analysis.
In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years of higher education and work experience, to include 5 years in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis, or other financial analysis.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and analysis of credit metrics.
Ability to calculate and interpret financial ratios, analyze data, and complete trend analysis.
Emerging proficiency with understanding and negotiating legal documentation, including structural analysis and the ability to structure transactions independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
