Confluent is hiring a Commercial Counsel to join our legal team. In this role, you will provide primary legal support to our Americas Sales organization, structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements with a focus on our SaaS offerings.
What You'll Do
- Provide primary support to Confluent’s Sales organization.
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Negotiate various privacy addendum agreements and security terms.
- Work on projects to help our department scale, grow, and become more efficient.
- Train and interact with Sales, third-party partners, and customers.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to solve issues related to complex commercial transactions.
- Be an independent worker and thought leader.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in technology transactions.
- Specific experience negotiating SaaS subscription agreements, license and support agreements, and professional services agreements with large enterprise customers.
- Experience with open source licensing and business models.
- Experience negotiating privacy terms, including Data Processing Addendums (DPAs).
- Experience working cross-functionally with internal organizations to resolve questions and concerns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to use sound judgment to address complex issues while balancing legal and business requirements.
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with demanding requests, work independently with minimal supervision, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced startup environment.
- A true team player.
- Familiarity with technical concepts in web applications and a willingness to learn new ones.
- License to practice law in one or more states.
- An undergraduate degree and law degree.
Nice to Have
- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification.
- DPA and Business Associate Agreement (BAA) negotiation experience.
- Experience negotiating with regulated industries, including healthcare, financial services, and telecommunications.
