About the Role

Washington University in St. Louis is hiring a Coder Certified (Remote) - Surgery to ensure accurate medical record documentation and billing for surgical services. You will play a key role in reviewing patient records and serving as a lead resource for the coding team.

What You'll Do

  • Review medical record documentation to identify all pertinent facts necessary for selecting comprehensive diagnoses and procedures.
  • Code evaluation and management to the appropriate CPT code and code diagnoses to the appropriate ICD-9 code.
  • Meet with physicians to review documentation, resolve coding issues, secure signatures, and tag files for follow-up.
  • Act as a lead person and assist coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation.
  • Assist with efforts to increase physician awareness of documentation requirements.
  • Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for the billing process.

What We're Looking For

  • Must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials).

Nice to Have

  • Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Associate degree in Medical Coding & Billing.
  • Skills in Computer Systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, Medical Billing and Coding, and Medical Terminology.

  • Compensation: $25.30 - $37.94 / Hourly
