About the Role

RIH Rhode Island Hospital is hiring a Clinical Research Assistant to join our research team. Under the supervision of Principal Investigators and a Clinical Research Coordinator, you will assist in acquiring and analyzing patient information for multiple clinical research projects. Our current work focuses on behavioral interventions for HIV prevention, medication adherence, and the impacts of intimate partner violence and substance use on HIV care.

What You'll Do

  • Assist Principal Investigators in coordinating clinical research activities.
  • Identify and follow up with prospective research participants, ensuring protocol eligibility requirements are met.
  • Establish and maintain study records for each participant.
  • Interview patients and/or families to explain studies, elicit cooperation, and gather information.
  • Facilitate obtaining informed consent and schedule patient appointments.
  • Review medical records to abstract necessary information and request missing data.
  • Monitor adherence to research protocols and alert physicians to deviations.
  • Perform research-based EKGs, vital signs, blood spinning, and shipping of blood and tissue products per protocol.
  • Collect and organize patient data for entry; operate computer to enter study information into database.
  • Assist with computer-assisted statistical analysis and may write non-complex programs to reformat data.
  • Maintain computer equipment and research devices.
  • Prepare graphs and charts of data; assist with quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • May assist in planning research protocols.
  • Coordinate activities of others assigned to the research project.
  • Review relevant literature to gather information.
  • Assist with lab organization and preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
  • Handle meeting preparation, note-taking, and follow-up tasks.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health, psychology, human biology, or a related area, including courses in research methodology.
  • Three to six months of previous research experience involving human participants (student research assistant experience is acceptable).
  • Knowledge of theory and techniques of research methodology.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize efforts on multiple projects and gather/format research information.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and hospital professionals.
  • Analytical skills to participate in developing research protocols and performing statistical analyses.
  • Technical ability to operate and maintain a computer system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients considering aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload within a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Must be comfortable interacting in an interdisciplinary setting and with people living with HIV and marginalized populations (e.g., individuals engaged in sex work, justice-involved populations, sexual and gender minority groups).

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary Range: $41,537.60 - $68,556.80
