The Hartford is looking for a Claims Specialist to join its Complex Claims Unit (CCU) within the Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Claims Division. You will be responsible for handling a caseload of higher complexity, higher exposure construction defect claims from inception through final resolution. This is a visible and important role where you will work directly on high-stakes matters.
What You'll Do
- Manage a caseload of litigated and non-litigated construction claims under commercial general liability policies.
- Conduct investigations, analyze findings, and evaluate information.
- Make coverage determinations and communicate written positions to insureds and other required parties.
- Set and monitor appropriate expense and indemnity reserves within prescribed authority levels.
- Present cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established levels.
- Develop and implement resolution strategies to achieve high-quality outcomes.
- Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including litigation planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review.
- Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
- Contribute to broader goals by participating in audits, projects, and product development initiatives.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior leadership on case developments and industry trends.
- Work with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
- Address inquiries from agents and policyholders while providing superior customer service.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 7 years handling complex litigated construction defect and bodily injury matters.

- Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws.

- Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exceed expectations and influence others to do the same.
Nice to Have
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred; a law degree is a plus, or commensurate experience.
- Familiarity with owner and contractor-controlled insurance policies and programs, as well as wrap policies.
- Excess claims handling experience is recommended but not required.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation Range: $106,400 - $159,600

This is a hybrid position with locations in Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; and Naperville, IL.
