Bundesverbraucherhilfe e.V. is looking for a Chief People Officer (m/w/d) in a 100% volunteer role to be fully responsible for building and leading our entire HR department from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to shape the people function for a digital, volunteer-driven organization focused on consumer protection and public welfare.
What You'll Do
- Take full responsibility for building and leading the entire HR department.
- Recruit, retain, and develop a volunteer team of at least ten people across various HR disciplines.
- Manage all personnel-related processes hands-on, including onboarding, role clarification, development, and team cohesion, without support from HR software.
- Develop lean, functional structures and processes for a digital, volunteer HR ecosystem.
- Collaborate closely with the executive board to implement HR strategic goals and strengthen organizational culture.
- Build a competency-based, role-oriented HR function focused on motivation, purpose, and performance.
What We're Looking For
- A completed degree in HR management, business psychology, business administration, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in building and leading HR structures, ideally in a non-profit or start-up environment.
- Strong hands-on mentality, high self-motivation, and willingness to set up and manage processes without digital tools.
- Persuasion, empathy, and leadership skills for working with people from diverse backgrounds.
- High identification with public welfare goals and volunteer collaboration.
Team & Environment
You will build and lead a volunteer team of at least ten people, forming the entire HR department. You will work closely with the executive board (Präsidium) and report directly to it.
