About the Role

Washington University in St. Louis is hiring a Certified Coder to support the Pediatrics Central Administration. In this remote role, you will review medical record documentation to determine accurate billing codes and ensure necessary documentation is complete. Your work is essential for the integrity of the billing process and clinical documentation.

What You'll Do

  • Review medical record documentation to identify all pertinent facts for selecting comprehensive diagnoses and procedure codes.
  • Assign appropriate CPT codes for evaluation and management and ICD-10 codes for diagnoses.
  • Meet with physicians to review documentation, resolve coding questions, secure signatures, and tag files for follow-up.
  • Act as a lead person, assisting other coders and staff with medical terminology and policy interpretation.
  • Assist with efforts to increase physician awareness of documentation requirements.
  • Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for the billing process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Must hold one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or a department-relevant AAPC specialty-specific credential).

Nice to Have

  • Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Associate degree in Medical Coding & Billing.
  • Skills in computer systems, ICD-10 Procedure Coding System, medical billing and coding, and medical terminology.

  • Compensation: $25.30 - $37.94 per hour.
