Border States, a 100% employee-owned company, is hiring a CDL Driver in Maple Grove, MN. In this role, you will support warehouse and delivery services, transporting materials to customer sites and other branches. What You'll Do
- Deliver material to customer sites or branch locations.
- Maintain delivery vehicles in clean, good working condition and monitor maintenance and mileage data.
- Maintain daily driver logs and daily vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
- Complete truck summary, driver’s log, and other backup detail daily.
- Observe and adhere to all local, state, and federal DOT regulations and Border States driver policies.
- Understand truck routes and coordinate deliveries with our own trucks.
- Load and unload material at the branch and customer locations.
- Support the operation functions of the warehouse.
- For Pole Drivers: Drive over-length vehicles in tight turning areas, highway traffic, and off-road conditions.
- For Pole Drivers: Work on job sites and pole yards handling large poles using special material handling equipment.
- For Pole Drivers: Rig oversize loads to pole trailers for proper hauling on public highways.
- For Pole Drivers: Work on construction sites and Rights of Way with uneven terrain and unloading conditions.
- For Pole Drivers: Travel in rail yards and unload poles from rail cars.
- For CDL Trainees: Complete on-site or local training center driver training courses to acquire a CDL license.
- For CDL Trainees: Become familiar with and effectively complete pre/post trip vehicle inspections and cargo securement techniques.
- For CDL Trainees: Complete training on technology used in vehicles such as Drive Cam, Encompass, handheld capture/POD devices, DVIR/E-log.
- For CDL Trainees: Understand required equipment/info in vehicles, including cab card, insurance card, IFTA permits/decals, accident kit, fire extinguisher, spill kit, and safety triangles.
- For CDL Trainees: Complete orientation to vehicles (box truck, curtain side, Moffett, lift gate, etc.) and special equipment (Moffett, pole crane trucks, etc.).
- For CDL Trainees: Drive with a Border States CDL Driver Mentor during training.
- May conduct Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) as part of a daily route.
- May perform warehouse functions including order filling, stocking shelves, processing returns, receiving, and shipping.
- May check and pack material to be delivered.
- Perform or assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- A clean driving record is essential.
- A valid Class A (or B) CDL driver’s license for your state of residence along with a current medical certification. (Trainees must successfully complete the CDL driving state test upon training completion.)
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
Nice to Have
- A minimum of a two-year business/trade degree or equivalent work experience.
- Prior warehouse distribution experience, including forklift operation and knowledge of electrical products/systems.
- Working knowledge of PC for Windows, Internet, Email, and SAP software.
- For Pole Drivers: Familiarity with State regulations for oversize load permits, flagging, and chase vehicles.
