Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is looking for a Cardiac Sonographer to deliver high-quality echocardiograms for oncology patients. You will play a vital role in monitoring cardiac function for patients undergoing cardiotoxic treatments within our multidisciplinary clinical setting at the Parkville campus.
What You'll Do
- Perform high-quality transthoracic echocardiograms for ambulatory and inpatient services
- Provide accurate measurements and preliminary technical reports for cardiology review
- Maintain imaging quality and adhere to established clinical protocols and standards
- Work collaboratively with cardiologists, oncologists and multidisciplinary clinical teams
- Contribute to patient-centred care through professional communication and compassion
- Maintain compliance with professional, quality assurance and infection control standards
- Participate in departmental quality improvement and professional development activities
- Provide Echocardiogram scanning for non-admitted and admitted patients
- Complete associated administrative tasks including patient reports
- Archiving images and management of paperwork
- Correctly produce Ultrasound Imaging sufficient for diagnostic evaluation
- Provide a high level of customer service to all patients and staff
- Reliably complete examinations in a timely manner and attend workplace in agreed hours
- Attend on-call as directed by the Chief Cardiac Sonographer
- Implement quality control on ECHO equipment according to department policy
- Maintain adequate accredited cardiac Sonography staff cover for booked sessions
- Support research activities and scans for clinical trials, as required
- Keep abreast with new imaging procedures and technology
What We're Looking For
- Accreditation and current membership with the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR)
- Demonstrated experience working as a Cardiac Sonographer, including performing transthoracic echocardiography
- Excellent technical scanning skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- A commitment to high standards of patient care and professional practice
- Bachelor of Science/Applied Sciences
- Postgraduate studies in cardiac physiology or equivalent
- A relevant cardiac ultrasound qualification
- Previous experience as a cardiac sonographer
- Proven ability to independently interpret cardiac ultrasound requests
- Demonstrated flexibility and availability to work rostered shifts and on call shifts
Nice to Have
- 3 years experience as a qualified cardiac sonographer
- 3D ECHO experience
- Strain imaging and analysis
- Experience in cardiac sonography for clinical trial research protocols
- Experience in service improvement or redesign
