A. O. Smith Corp. is hiring a CAD Design Supervisor to plan, assign, and supervise the activities and resources within the business unit CAD department. You will be responsible for meeting department and company goals, including reviewing and releasing drawings and 3D models via the Engineering Change Process and acting as the primary contact for CAD and PLM software administration.
What You'll Do
- Act as a super user for CAD, PMD, and PLM software solutions within Engineering and participate on cross-functional teams supporting software updates.
- Directly assist and train CAD team members and other engineering personnel on CAD software as needed.
- Assist in managing the Product Change Process through resource assignment and drawing review for compliance with drafting standards.
- Supervise the activities of CAD Operators and Designers in support of product documentation, configuration management, and control.
- Work with project engineers and managers to establish schedules and priorities for incoming work.
- Conduct bi-annual employee performance appraisals per company procedures.
- Maintain and document department CAD design standards to ensure consistent, up-to-date practices.
- Draft procedural changes within the department to facilitate productivity, consistency, and goal attainment.
- Coordinate with other departments on drawing and presentation needs, adjusting processes as necessary.
- Represent the Engineering Department on cross-functional teams to address company issues.
- Conduct periodic drawing audits to maintain accuracy, consistency with standards, and evaluate procedures for improvement.
- Remain informed of the latest software updates and modeling techniques while mentoring other CAD team members.
- Provide yearly budget input to Management for subordinate salary adjustments and capital expenditures for departmental upgrades.
- Perform design and drafting tasks as needed to support workload.
- Interview candidates for potential hire or promotion as CAD Operator, Designer, Senior Designer, and Technical Lead.
- Solve connectivity or user access issues in a timely manner.
- Responsible for general housekeeping and maintenance of working areas.
- Administer CAD and PLM software packages with the guidance of the Information Technology Department.
- Review and approve timecards of direct reports on a weekly basis.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
What We're Looking For
- A two-year degree in CAD, Design, or an equivalent science field.
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
- 2-3 years of Supervisory or Leadership experience.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of CAD Data Management and PLM systems, with system administration experience preferred.
- Direct experience with SolidWorks and/or SAP PLM is preferred.
- A four-year degree in CAD Design or Engineering is preferred.
