Matrix Camps and Logistics is seeking a Breakfast Cook for remote fly-in/fly-out camp operations. In this role, you will report to the First Cook and Executive Chef, preparing breakfasts, lunches, baked goods, and desserts from scratch while managing essential kitchen functions on a night shift schedule.
What You'll Do
- Prepare breakfasts and lunches, incorporating seasonal garden produce.
- Prepare baked goods and desserts from scratch.
- Develop menus that reflect site preferences and dietary restrictions.
- Maintain sufficient food inventory for site resident numbers.
- Implement and execute a Food Safety Plan using advanced recording methods.
- Place and receive grocery orders, liaising with grocers for quality and back orders.
- Maintain a well-organized and clean food storage area.
- Ensure the 'first in first out' rotation procedure for inventory control.
- Execute safe food storage and labeling of potential food allergy items.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings.
- Provide kitchen facility orientation and ongoing coaching to incoming kitchen staff.
- Conduct monthly worksite inspections related to kitchen facilities.
- Ensure kitchen staff perform tasks according to safe work practices and procedures.
- Report any unsafe conditions and/or equipment issues to the Resort Manager.
- Report all incidents and accidents immediately.
- Ensure good housekeeping in the work area at all times.
- Maintain a high-performing, team-oriented, and productive work environment.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of three (3) years working in a breakfast or 2nd Cook position in a camp kitchen.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Highly motivated, team-oriented individual with attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Able to lift and move heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods.
- Able to maintain a high level of performance over a 10–12 hour shift.
- Previous experience working in a camp setting is required.
- References and a criminal record check are mandatory.
Nice to Have
- Valid and current Food Safe Certificate and WHMIS Certificate.
- Additional training and/or certification in Culinary arts is an asset.
Team & Environment
Reports to the First Cook, and ultimately to the Executive Chef in camp.
Benefits & Compensation
- Fly-in / Fly-out schedule.
- 3 weeks in, 3 weeks out rotation.
- Paid travel days.
- Compensation: $325/day - $350/day depending on skills and experience.
