Conservation Legacy is looking for a Biology Assistant - AmeriCorps member to collect and analyze data on plant communities within National Park Service units across the Pacific Islands. This role focuses on data science duties and science communication, contributing to vital ecological monitoring efforts.

What You'll Do

Collect and analyze data on the status and trends of plant communities within National Park Service units across the Pacific Islands.
Assist with improving data quality and developing efficiencies in data management steps.
Contribute to science communication through data summaries, data visuals, and communication to visitors, local communities, and natural resource managers.
Prepare, summarize, and analyze vegetation datasets with a focus on assessing plant community status and trends.
Document data science steps and procedures via R programming language, including storing, testing, and executing procedures from within an R package environment.
Opportunistically assist with vegetation monitoring field projects, data entry, and data quality control when appropriate.
Ensure a respectful environment and safely conduct service in a remote and physically challenging backcountry environment.
Document service activities in a neat and complete manner and communicate effectively with supervisor, mentors, and crewmembers.
Produce deliverables including R scripts demonstrating procedures, a Standard Operating Procedure document, and a science communication product.

What We're Looking For

United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or agrees to obtain one prior to using the education award.
Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and complete a National Service Criminal History Check and a government security background check.
Must be available to participate for 52 Weeks.
Must have a valid driver's license to drive a government vehicle.

Nice to Have

Demonstrated ability in utilizing R for data science related projects.
Demonstrated understanding of basic statistical analyses.
Demonstrated ability to serve self-sufficiently on assigned tasks.
Advanced use of R (e.g., designing functions for use in R packages or utilizing nested dataframes for statistical analysis).
Experience utilizing linear mixed-effects models and case bootstrapping.
Experience collecting and summarizing vegetation or other natural resources data.

Benefits & Compensation

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $7,395.00 upon successful completion.
Living Allowance of $600.00 per week.
