Boston Children's Hospital is looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Research Computing department. You will work with PhD-level scientists and researchers analyzing single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, proteomics, and image data to investigate diseases, building pipelines and web-based tools for data analysis, integration, and sharing.
What You'll Do
- Provide computational support by applying a wide range of bioinformatics tools and technologies.
- Complete assignments independently and on time, adhering to standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Maintain and upgrade research computing tools and technologies, migrating data and documenting changes.
- Routinely lead or participate in complex Research Computing projects with the BCH research community.
- Set goals and objectives for projects and demonstrate achievement of those goals.
- Coordinate work activities with other stakeholders and contribute to resulting presentations and publications.
- Train staff and researchers, tailoring presentations effectively.
- Develop, implement, and maintain knowledge management systems.
- Communicate scientific findings clearly through presentations, email, memos, and scientific publications.
- Present progress at project and departmental meetings, facilitating productive discussions and problem-solving.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
- A minimum of one year of position-specific experience.
- Extensive knowledge of bioinformatics computations in high-performance computing environments and web development.
- Extensive knowledge of open-source bioinformatics software and pipelines for analyses like single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, and proteomics.
- Extensive knowledge of technologies like programming languages (R and Python), databases (SQL), version control (Git), scientific workflow tools, and high-performance computing clusters.
- Ability to resolve a wide range of complex Research Computing assignments in support of biomedical research.
- Ability to routinely lead complex projects and coordinate project teams.
- Ability to follow, improve, and create technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
- A strong publication record.
- Ability to effectively convey messages through written and verbal communication tailored to the audience.
Nice to Have
- A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of cloud computing tools.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: $83,241.60 - $133,192.80 annually.
