Wise is hiring a Backend Engineer

Wise is looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Europe Risk and Controls team. In this role, you will ensure customers can access Wise services in the region by complying with financial regulations and building our risk management infrastructure. You'll build the controls and automations that enable Wise to offer its products to more people and businesses across Europe.

What You'll Do

• Build controls and automations to enable Wise to offer its products to more people and businesses across Europe.
• Understand problematic payments and customer difficulties and how to solve them.
• Raise the automation level to enable scaling of the product.
• Help scale-up and build a world class money transfer product by finding solutions to technical challenges and opportunities.
• Take end-to-end ownership of your projects to ensure goals are achieved.

What We're Looking For

• 3/5+ years of experience with Java or other JVM based language.
• Experience with Spring framework.
• Deep understanding of JDBC and database internals.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Distributed and Concurrent Systems.
• A strong product mindset and passion for user experience.
• Ability to work independently and take end-to-end ownership of projects.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas.
• Enjoy writing testable code and believe in Test Driven Development.
• Believe in and follow best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback.
• Experience efficiently using AI-tools.

Team & Environment

You'll be part of the Europe Risk and Controls team, collaborating closely with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers and other product teams.
