Remote Talent LATAM is hiring an Associate Director of Engineering. In this dual role, you will architect and maintain critical infrastructure for multi-platform commerce integrations, analytics, and automated reporting. You'll serve as the bridge between clients and the engineering team, acting as a trusted technical advisor who leads discovery, architects solutions, and guides the team to deliver results.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for key clients.
- Lead discovery sessions and gather detailed requirements.
- Develop and present multiple solution options with tradeoff analysis.
- Recommend optimal approaches based on technical feasibility, cost, and timeline.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based client relationships.
- Translate business needs into actionable technical solutions.
- Design, oversee, build and own integrations and extensions between Shopify Plus and enterprise systems (OMS, ERP, CRM, PIM, payment gateways, etc.).
- Build analytics and reporting features that process large-scale order, product, and customer data.
- Implement robust background job systems for data synchronization, inventory updates, and workflow automation.
- Define integration patterns, API strategies, and data synchronization approaches.
- Evaluate third-party platforms and recommend the best fit for client needs.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and performance across integrated systems.
- Troubleshoot complex integration issues and implement robust error handling.
- Design scalable, maintainable and performant integration architectures that support business growth.
- Make critical technical decisions and provide guidance on complex problems.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure engineering best practices.
- Stay current with ecommerce and integration technology trends.
- Evaluate new tools, platforms, and integration approaches.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years developing production-grade backend systems in Node.js and TypeScript, with a focus on Shopify Plus and enterprise eCommerce integrations.
- 3+ years in a technical leadership or architect role.
- Strong experience with both relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and document (MongoDB) databases for managing large-scale product, order, and customer data.
- Proven track record building and maintaining Shopify API and third-party integrations, including handling API rate limits, retries, and error recovery.
- Hands-on experience with background job and queue processing (BullMQ, Bull, or similar) for synchronization, fulfillment, and automation workflows.
- Deep TypeScript expertise with a strong commitment to type safety and maintainable architecture.
- Solid experience with REST and GraphQL APIs for eCommerce and enterprise applications.
- Strong testing discipline: unit, integration, and end-to-end approaches.
- Experience with code quality tooling and Git workflows.
- Ability to write maintainable, well-documented code.
- Understanding of database migrations and schema evolution.
- Production debugging and error handling experience.
- Reside in a Latin American (LATAM) country.
