California State University is hiring an Associate Dean for Student Success and Outreach to provide strategic direction and guidance on educational policies for the College of the Arts. This role leads process improvements, co-chairs the college’s Strategic Planning Committee, and manages operational objectives to foster a high-quality, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
What You'll Do
- Maintain a continuous presence in the college office and provide routine availability for consultation with students, staff, and faculty on student issues.
- Engage the college community to promote student success, address challenges, and foster opportunities across all facets of the learning environment.
- Advance priorities of diversity, equity, and inclusion as a foundation for student success for all members of the college community.
- Collaborate with academic advisors to facilitate efficient advising structures and develop programs for student retention, graduation, internship, and career planning.
- Collaborate with Department Chairs and Directors to develop and incorporate high-impact practices like internships, service learning, and community engagement.
- Manage undergraduate and graduate arts programs, including requesting and allocating funding for academic support and mental health resources.
- Oversee student academic appeals, academic renewal, disciplinary sanctions, and academic integrity in accordance with FERPA.
- Cultivate and expand degree programs and public-facing units to meet the needs of a diverse student body and community partnerships.
- Serve as a key member of the college leadership team and represent the college on committees, councils, and at functions both within and outside normal work hours.
- Expand and oversee the college scholarship and internship programs.
- Manage enrollment management and academic scheduling processes in collaboration with Department Chairs.
- Assist in student success initiatives, internships, study abroad programs, public relations, outreach, and provision of mental health resources.
- Participate in ongoing strategic planning, monitor data, share challenges and accomplishments, and pivot as needed to meet goals.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Dean of the College.
What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in an academic field.
- Earned tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, with a record of teaching, service, and scholarly/creative activity appropriate for a tenured appointment in one of the college’s six departments/schools.
- Experience in higher education administration and/or leadership at the department level or higher.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and a strong commitment to innovation in student learning for a diverse population.
Nice to Have
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a dynamic, cross-disciplinary environment through shared governance and consultative decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience managing fiscal resources.
- Demonstrated experience with data and statistical analysis in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience implementing academic policies and procedures related to undergraduate and/or graduate education.
- Demonstrated experience in graduate studies, enrollment management, academic advising, internships, admissions, or student mentoring.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting professional and leadership development among staff and faculty.
- Demonstrated evidence of successful outreach and relationship building between higher education and K-12 institutions.
- Demonstrated evidence of ability to build relationships within a university or between a university and external communities.
Team & Environment
This role reports to the Dean of the College of the Arts. You will work collaboratively with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction, and the Administrative Services Manager. You will also serve as co-chair of the college’s Strategic Planning Committee.
Benefits & Compensation
- The salary range for the Administrator III (12-Month) classification is $82,692 - $265,428 per year.
- The anticipated hiring range may be up to $163,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
