Reviews and evaluates commercial real estate appraisals to verify alignment with federal regulations, internal banking policies, and USPAP standards. Applies advanced understanding of valuation methodologies, including income capitalization, to assess the validity and reliability of appraisal reports.
What You'll Do
- Examine appraisal reports for commercial loans, identifying inconsistencies and ensuring technical accuracy
- Engage with appraisal vendors to resolve discrepancies and improve report quality
- Conduct market research to support adjustments to appraised values based on current conditions
- Inspect properties when necessary to validate valuation assumptions
- Advise loan officers on valuation risks and real estate market trends
- Manage vendor relationships, including fee negotiation and performance evaluation
- Develop and maintain company-wide appraisal standards and review processes
- Support training initiatives for staff pursuing appraisal certifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and active state appraiser certification required
- Minimum of five years of experience in commercial real estate appraisal
- MAI designation or equivalent experience mandatory
- Must hold certifications in New York and New Jersey
- Thorough understanding of FIRREA, USPAP, and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to interpret complex valuation data and communicate findings clearly
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with income capitalization models and residential subdivision valuation
- Proficiency in ARGUS and RIMS is highly preferred
