MyFlorida (Department of Management Services) is looking for an Application Systems Programmer III to join the Bureau of Departmental Information Systems (BDIS) at the Florida Department of State. This role serves as a C# .NET application developer responsible for building, maintaining, and modernizing the software systems that support the Department's staff, constituents, and essential business functions.
What You'll Do
- Work within a team, or individually, to perform IT tasks in support of Department staff, constituents, and business functions.
- Maintain, modify, and modernize existing applications and systems.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of new applications.
- Analyze issues, systems, and processes.
- Coach teammates and provide expert opinion as needed.
- Perform technical tasks such as SQL queries, batch jobs, or reports to support Department staff and applications.
- Adhere to BDIS standards for developing, testing, and documenting, including DevOps best practices, unit testing, and code reviews.
- Participate in the discovery process to determine business needs and define application functional specifications.
- Perform integration and documentation of external partner or vendor interfaces.
- Perform data tasks such as extraction, analysis, cleanup, and reporting while maintaining data integrity.
- Create and maintain thorough documentation.
- Evaluate new development tools and methodologies.
- Assist other IT teams as needed in testing, troubleshooting, and solutioning.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Four (4) years of experience as an application developer, at least two (2) of which were spent developing in C# .NET.
- OR Two (2) years of experience as a C# .NET application developer and at least two (2) years in another information technology field.
- OR a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or a similar field.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
- Ability to work with a team and provide team leadership.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient with C# .NET, SQL, and Visual Studio.
- Proficient with development methodologies and common software architecture patterns.
- Proficient with ASP.NET, MVC, and RESTful services.
- Knowledge of SQL Server and relational data practices.
- Knowledge of working with command line environments such as DOS or OpenVMS.
- Proficient with web application development skills including HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work activities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- A successful Level 2 criminal background check is a condition of employment.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading application development projects or teams.
- Experience modernizing applications written in legacy languages like Visual Basic, C++, COBOL, Classic ASP, or ColdFusion.
- Experience analyzing processes and implementing improvements or solutions.
- Experience using Git and Azure DevOps.
- Experience as a full stack developer handling all aspects of an application.
