Role Overview
This position plays a key role in maintaining financial accuracy across customer and carrier transactions within the transportation finance function. You will support monthly reporting, conduct variance analysis, and ensure invoicing aligns with contractual terms, including lane-specific pricing and accessorial fees. Collaboration with Carrier Management, IT, Brokerage, and Operations teams is essential to strengthen financial systems and controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Support transportation finance managers in auditing customer and carrier invoices and delivering timely financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Verify that all customer billing adheres to active contract terms, including rate structures and additional charges.
- Analyze recurring system issues, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions to improve reliability.
- Drive continuous improvement in billing processes by identifying opportunities to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
- Engage regularly with customers to ensure prompt invoice delivery and resolve outstanding balances or disputes.
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of financial processes and workflows.
- Produce monthly financial summaries and analyze variances to support performance tracking.
- Contribute to the development of company and customer budgets and forecasts.
- Escalate financial discrepancies to leadership and suggest actionable improvements.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior finance coordinators as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the finance team’s objectives.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Proficiency in managing complex data sets and summarizing findings clearly is essential. Experience with MS Office—particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook—is expected, along with familiarity with financial reporting tools.
Experience with SAP and MercuryGate TMS is a plus. Prior financial analysis experience of 2–3 years is preferred but not mandatory.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid format based out of the Des Plaines, IL office, with regular on-site presence required—typically four days per week. When working remotely, employees must have a quiet, dedicated workspace with reliable internet access. Compensation
The base salary starts at $68,000, with actual pay reflecting skills, experience, and qualifications. The organization does not offer visa sponsorship or work authorization support and participates in the E-Verify program where applicable.
