Abacus Insights is hiring an AI Engineering Leader to guide a global team delivering mission-driven AI solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring projects run smoothly, teams stay aligned, and innovation thrives, directly impacting how we scale our technology to meet business needs.
What You'll Do
- Define and deliver AI strategy, driving the development and deployment of advanced AI models and systems that power Abacus products.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with AI engineers, data engineers, and product teams to create solutions that boost user productivity.
- Manage and mentor software development teams of 30+ engineers across multiple product lines, guiding architecture and coding standards.
- Drive innovation and execution on critical AI and data engineering projects, ensuring roadmap delivery and high quality standards.
- Influence architecture and operations, improve Agile/Scrum processes, and balance roadmap commitments with operational priorities.
- Scale for growth by coaching talent, evolving the team structure toward 50+ engineers, and fostering a culture of excellence.
What We're Looking For
- At least 8 years in engineering roles, including 3–5 years managing technical teams.
- At least 4 years in ML/AI engineering within high-growth environments or equivalent academic research.
- At least 2 years working with Databricks, Mosaic AI Gateway, and related Data+AI technologies.
- Hands-on experience with generative models, embeddings, fine-tuning, evaluation benchmarks, and agentic workflows.
- Experience in RAG, SQL Agents, MCP.
- Proven success managing engineering teams and projects to deliver production-grade systems.
- Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and scalable ML/AI architectures.
- Experience building distributed, scalable systems for data processing (10s–100s TB).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, familiarity with adjacent roles, and ability to influence technical discussions.

- Exposure to Snowflake, FHIR, or healthcare data.
