The University of Rochester is seeking an Admissions Reader to join our team during peak application volume. This part-time, approximately five-month (November-March) assignment supplements our full-time admissions staff. You will serve as a first-read reviewer, evaluating undergraduate applications for the Arts, Sciences and Engineering to determine admissibility and recommend merit scholarships.
What You'll Do
- Review and evaluate undergraduate applications from assigned geographic regions and schools, both domestic and international, as a first reader.
- Determine admissibility based on secondary and postsecondary school curricula, non-academic engagement, written communication samples, and non-cognitive character.
- Evaluate academic and non-academic components to recommend potential inclusion of merit-based scholarships.
- Attend regularly scheduled part-time reader meetings to stay current with the review process and establish continuity with full-time readers.
- Read an average of four files per hour and work approximately 17 hours per week.

- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and training.
- Work experience in a related field such as counseling or human resources.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills in a diverse environment.
- Demonstrated customer service experience with a global perspective and commitment to diversity.
- Ability to work in a team setting with all levels of management and staff.
- Enthusiastic attitude, excellent judgement, and solid time management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a larger team.
- New York State Residency.
Nice to Have
- One year of relevant admissions experience or school counseling.
Team & Environment
Readers are assigned to first reads by the Project Director, Admissions, to whom this role reports.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $18.65 - $26.11 per hour.
Work Mode
This is a fully remote position. Candidates must reside and work within New York State.
