DTU Fødevareinstituttet is hiring an Academic Specialist to play a central role in the EU Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance (EURL-AMR). You will combine advanced laboratory expertise with coordination and quality assurance to ensure the continuity of long-running EU reference laboratory activities, acting as a key interface between laboratory operations, quality systems, and EU stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Plan and execute EURL-AMR activities under mandates from the European Commission.
- Coordinate proficiency test schemes, including design, material production, result evaluation, and reporting.
- Perform hands-on and supervisory functions for phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing, including interpretation of complex AMR phenotypes.
- Provide scientific oversight of genotypic AMR and whole-genome sequencing–based analyses, integrating phenotypic and genotypic results.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality-assured laboratory procedures and documentation, including SOPs and templates.
- Coordinate laboratory work planning, including task prioritization, timelines, and efficient use of resources.
- Prepare technical reports, scientific documentation, and deliverables, contributing to EU-funded projects and international collaborations.
- Lead capacity-building activities, including developing teaching materials and providing laboratory-based instruction to partner labs and staff.
What We're Looking For
- A master's or PhD degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a closely related field.
- Documented experience with antimicrobial resistance and reference laboratory–level AMR work.
- Strong hands-on experience with phenotypic AST methods, including broth microdilution.
- Experience with whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses applied to AMR.
- Experience working within quality-assured and accredited laboratory environments.
- Ability to manage complex tasks independently and take responsibility for coordination, planning, and follow-through.
- Clear and professional communication in both spoken and written English.
- Ability to thrive in an international, collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment.
