Leman Academy of Excellence Inc is seeking a dedicated 6th Grade ELA Teacher to join our team. This role is responsible for instructing scholars using our rigorous classical model of learning, enhanced by data-driven decision-making, within a structured and supportive environment.
What You'll Do
- Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior and maintain an orderly classroom.
- Observe and evaluate scholars' academic performance, behavior, and social development.
- Prepare materials and instructional resources based on the classical model.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet scholars' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, questioning, and work time using whole class, small group, and individual techniques.
- Notify administrators of scholars with special needs and collaborate with the Special Education Instructor.
- Prepare and implement ELL strategies and develop curriculum maps.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons and assignments, and communicate them to scholars.
- Assign, grade, and analyze classwork, homework, and unit assessments.
- Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators regarding scholar progress and behavioral issues.
- Maintain accurate scholar records and prepare reports as required.
- Guide scholars with social or academic adjustment issues and prepare interventions for those needing extra help.
- Collaborate with grade-level faculty to plan lessons and with other professionals on individual scholar needs.
- Use technology and other aids to supplement presentations and prepare weekly lesson plans.
- Organize activities that promote physical, mental, and social development, including projects and field trips.
- Attend professional development, staff meetings, and serve on committees.
- Administer standardized tests and involve parent volunteers in classroom activities.
- Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers and perform duties like hall monitoring.
- Manage classroom equipment and supplies and sponsor extracurricular activities.
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and passing scores on the appropriate Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments OR a current Arizona or other state Teaching Certificate.
- One year of demonstrated teaching experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and satisfactory background clearance.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Proven leadership ability and strong collaborative decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- A strong commitment to the principles of excellence in classical education.
- Working knowledge of pedagogy, instructional methodology, and curriculum development.
- Ability to manage conflict resolution with humility and a service-oriented attitude.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, and colleagues.
- A strong commitment to promoting health and safety leadership.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift and move boxes and packages of varying weights.
Nice to Have
- An Arizona Teaching Certificate or the ability to successfully transfer an out-of-state certificate.
- Working knowledge and understanding of Classical curricula and learning, or a strong desire to learn.
- Familiarity with Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy and methodology, or a willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of AzM2 and its data measurement.
- Understanding of the Common Core Standards (Arizona College and Career Ready Standards), or a willingness to learn.
- Experience with the Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System with ATI.
- Working knowledge of the Saxon Math program, or a willingness to learn.
- Working knowledge of the Shurley English language arts program, or a willingness to learn.
- Understanding of the Data-Driven Instruction model, or a willingness to better understand it.
Team & Environment
Teachers report directly to the Principal and work closely with the Vice Principal, Deans, and the Professional Development team in a collaborative environment.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located in Marana, AZ.
