The Pembroke Hill School is seeking a joyful and dedicated 2nd Grade Teacher to join its lower school team for the 2026-27 school year. You will lead a homeroom, teaching language arts, math, and social studies while fostering each student's social-emotional and executive function growth.
What You'll Do
- Lead a homeroom of up to 22 students, teaching language arts, math, and social studies.
- Support each student's social-emotional and executive function development.
- Maintain clear, positive, and ongoing communication with each student's family.
- Model the school's core values of respect, compassion, scholarship, and integrity.
- Demonstrate a commitment to Pembroke Hill's mission statement.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's Degree is required; education-related or equivalent experience in education.
- A minimum of two years experience as a lead teacher at the elementary level.
- Demonstrated ability and comfort with various technology skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of research on the science of reading and its application.
- A holistic view of children, knowledge of developmental milestones for elementary students, a passion for integrated learning, and a thorough understanding of differentiation.
Nice to Have
- A Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience with the 6+1 Traits of Writing is preferred.
- Experience leading and directing an assistant in the classroom is preferred.
Team & Environment
You will lead a homeroom of up to 22 students, with a full-time assistant, for an average student-teacher ratio of 1:11. You'll be part of the collaborative lower school team.

Compensation is based on a competitive norm influenced by area and peer schools, using years of teaching experience and the highest completed degree.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located at the Lower School - Wornall campus in Kansas City, Missouri.
