Confluent is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our Austin, Texas office. You will design, develop, and improve software that touches production and has a direct customer-facing impact. This role is focused on helping to build the next generation of Kafka and push the boundaries of distributed system design.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve production software with customer-facing impact.
- Follow best practices for software development and participate in code reviews.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Help build the next generation of Kafka by pushing the boundaries of distributed system design.
What We're Looking For
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Math, or a related technical field with a graduation date between December 2026 and August 2027.
- Self-motivated and able to drive projects with mentorship and project requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in teams and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
- Proficient in at least one of these languages: Java, Scala, C, C++, or Go.
- Driven and excited about the challenges of a fast-paced, innovative software development environment.
- Interested in building large-scale distributed systems in the cloud and excited to make an impact.

Benefits & Compensation
- A $4,000 USD pre-taxed lump sum payment for a housing stipend at the start of your internship.
- Travel reimbursement for round-trip airline flights or driving mileage reimbursement.
- Monthly commuting stipend to travel to and from the office equivalent to $150 USD.
