Veolia Environnement SA is seeking a Wastewater Operator to be responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a wastewater treatment plant. You will use SCADA systems, conduct lab tests, operate equipment, and ensure adherence to environmental and safety standards.
What You'll Do
- Control and operate automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed, odor control systems, and vacuum filters.
- Monitor control panels, flow meters, gauges, and pressures through instrument panels and SCADA systems to regulate flow and processes.
- Record operating conditions and data in shift logs and prepare reports.
- Diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per established procedures.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks, as well as manual labor including cleaning equipment and grounds.
- Conduct field and routine lab tests (chemical, physical, biological) to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control.
- Sample wastewater, sludge, and gases according to schedule and service automatic samplers.
- Practice good housekeeping and adhere to all safety and environmental policies.
What We're Looking For
- A valid OWWCO Wastewater Treatment and Collection certification with the ability to obtain certification at the facility's highest level.
- A valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Proficiency in the use of all site-specific PPE, including respirators, gas detectors, and confined space equipment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as an operator.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to accurately follow procedures.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
- Basic math skills and the ability to work reliably with set start and finish times.
- Availability to work weekends and be on call for emergency response (typically once every 4-6 weeks).
Nice to Have
- Additional certifications such as first aid or confined space training.
- A commitment to work toward higher-level water treatment certifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude or relevant trade licensing (e.g., Millwright).
