About the Role

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is hiring a Vice President, Principal Technical Business Analyst / Data Engineer. In this role, you will be primarily accountable for supporting the identification, documentation, and testing of Business and Technical requirements for Oceania initiatives and regional projects. You will also act as a Data Analyst/Engineer, assisting with generating Functional Requirements and Reporting for initiatives requiring data access.

What You'll Do

  • Work with Business and Technology stakeholders to develop estimates for initiatives based on project scoping and planning.
  • Understand and report on any variance to estimates due to changes in requirements or designs.
  • Lead requirement gathering, engaging with stakeholders to define and document business needs, workflows, data requirements, use cases, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze existing business processes; identify inefficiencies or gaps; propose improvements.
  • Collaborate with solution architects, system architects, and development teams to assist with designing scalable, robust, secure solutions.
  • Ensure business and data requirements are translated into functional, non‐functional, interface, and reporting specifications.
  • Work with stakeholders to facilitate standardization of requirements to align with application functions and Regional MUFG Standards.
  • Provide business users with global/regional solutions or recommend local solutions if unavailable.
  • Participate in vendor/product evaluations, RFP processes, and implementation of these solutions.
  • Support regulatory/compliance requirements impacting the business (e.g., sanctions screening, KYC, AML, ISO20022, CPS234).
  • Ensure quality through reviewing/creating test plans, participating in SIT/UAT, and validating functionality meets business needs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation: process flows, business rules, user journeys, data models, policies/controls.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a business analyst specializing in Financial Markets and Institutional Banking.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent industry experience within Banking and Finance.
  • Experience mapping complex processes/workflows; strong analytical skills; ability to handle data, define data requirements, create data flow diagrams and logical process maps.
  • Skilled in eliciting requirements, writing clear user stories/acceptance criteria, functional requirements documents.
  • Strong communication skills: able to interact with senior leadership, translate technical concepts to business stakeholders and vice versa.
  • Experience in a principal business analyst role in regional/global system implementation in other international banks and been part of the full project lifecycle from conception to post-production support.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide the business on how an application fulfils the requirement so that it can be used without customization.
  • Experience in working with systems analysts, developers, testers to brief them on business and data requirements and to validate solutions.
  • Knowledge in managing the business for issues raised during testing phase to qualify as a defect or a change and attributing severity.
  • Experience in software development lifecycle (SDLC) with exposure to Agile methodologies.
  • Data analysis skills: SQL or ability to understand and define data flows, data schemas, reporting requirements.
  • Deep understanding of Institutional Banking product functions: payments (domestic/cross‐border), cash management, liquidity management, collections/disbursements, reconciliation, fraud prevention.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and possess drive, ability to work independently and a good team player.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role providing guidance and mentorship to a developing team.

Nice to Have

  • Having a working knowledge of domestic payments landscape in APAC is a preference.
