Emory University is hiring a Vice Chair of Research to lead a vibrant, collaborative research portfolio within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM). In this leadership role, you will develop and implement a strategic vision for research growth, productivity, and impactful science, building on the department's existing success. This position requires a component of dedicated effort alongside other academic, clinical, or educational duties.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the department's research.
- Assemble annual reviews of the department’s research portfolio and share with faculty and leadership.
- Provide leadership for faculty recruitment, research administration, planning, and program evaluation.
- Develop new and augmented research-related activities to reinforce the department’s reputation.
- Represent the department’s research portfolio in departmental, School of Medicine, and national/international forums.
- Promote awareness, recognition, and engagement with DFPM research through collaboration with the Communications Officer.
- Communicate new opportunities, regulatory changes, and announcements to key stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship by championing faculty efforts towards research distinctions and milestones.
- Enhance research culture and infrastructure for high-quality research.
- Support and streamline administrative processes for grant submissions, awards, and project implementation.
- Identify and engage new participants (clinical faculty, residents, students) in research.
- Engage in real-time problem-solving for faculty, staff, submission, and project challenges.
- Collaborate with other Vice Chairs and Division Directors to integrate DFPM functions and support a cohesive community.
What We're Looking For
- MD and/or PhD-equivalent credentials.
- A track record of an externally funded grant portfolio for at least 5 years.
- Meet Emory University requirements for rank at Associate Professor or higher.
- Alignment with DFPM’s areas of research.
- A demonstrated track record of mentorship.
Team & Environment
This role is a member of the DFPM’s leadership team, collaborating with the Chair, Departmental Administrator, staff, and faculty. You will be assisted by an Assistant Director of Research Programs.

This is a hybrid position based in Georgia.
