Homebase is hiring an UX Engineer (Hybrid)

About the Role

What You'll Do

As a UX Engineer, you'll shape the foundation of our product experience by developing and refining reusable components that serve both web and mobile platforms. You'll translate Figma designs into production-ready code, ensuring each element is accessible, well-documented, and consistent across applications. Your work will directly support a growing design system used by dozens of product teams.

You’ll identify inconsistencies early, anticipate edge cases, and align cross-platform patterns where possible—while respecting platform-specific conventions. Using AI tools thoughtfully, you'll streamline component scaffolding, testing, and documentation, demonstrating clear methods for accelerating team output without sacrificing quality.

You’ll define how design tokens flow from design to code, maintain that pipeline, and ensure accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA and native platform guidelines) are embedded by default. You'll also support engineers across the organization through PR reviews and direct collaboration, making the system intuitive and easy to adopt.

Requirements

  • 4–7 years of experience in frontend or design engineering, with a focus on design systems
  • Proven ability to work across Figma and code, translating design into scalable, maintainable components
  • Hands-on experience with React Native, Swift, and Kotlin, including platform-specific layout and interaction patterns
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, component libraries, and token management
  • Experience building accessible UIs from scratch, with knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA and mobile accessibility standards
  • Practical use of AI tools to improve development speed, testing, and documentation workflows
  • Experience implementing design token systems that sync across web and native environments
  • Solid understanding of how design decisions impact long-term scalability and developer experience
  • Skilled in writing clear technical documentation and usage guidelines
  • Proficient with testing tools such as Jest and React Testing Library

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Ruby on Rails or other backend systems
  • Understanding of how frontend constraints interact with backend architecture
