Volkswagen Group is seeking a Utility Operations Analyst to support Electrify America's mission to revolutionize electric vehicle charging. In this role, you will be a central source of expertise, managing technical coordination with utilities for grid interconnections and driving process improvements to accelerate implementation.
What You'll Do
- Provide technical and subject matter expertise for utility operations topics.
- Identify, cultivate, and manage utility relationships.
- Provide central coordination between major California utilities and internal project managers on construction projects.
- Work with utilities nationwide to maximize budgets, site acquisition, charger implementation, and grid interaction.
- Support internal groups and external stakeholders on utility interconnection matters.
- Review agreements, plans, specifications, and billings submitted by utility companies.
- Support new utility account setup and ongoing account management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with utilities and project owners.
- Find efficiencies in cost structures through new delivery models and process improvements.
- Manage key relationships and provide technical support and coordination with utilities (50% of time).
- Provide technical utility interconnection support to operations and technical teams (40% of time).
- Manage and oversee utility billing and utility line extension contracts (10% of time).
What We're Looking For
- 5-7 years of experience coordinating with utilities on the design and construction of new service.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, other technical degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Accomplished project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Management, analytical, and conceptual thinking abilities.
- Skills in integration, influencing, negotiation, problem-solving, and initiative.
- Computer savvy and skilled in the use of software.
- Working knowledge of utility distribution systems and high voltage (480v 3 phase) utility service.
- Ability to understand and interpret utility design drawings.
- Understanding of electrical design for high voltage equipment.
- Knowledge of utilities operations and standards for new electrical service.
- Ability to apply basic utility principles, practices, and regulations.
- Ability to communicate utility and engineering ideas and recommendations.
- Experience providing support related to utility interconnection or ongoing service.
- Project management experience across all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Demonstrated ability to track, escalate, and manage risks & issues.
- Ability to address customer energy consumption inquiries and process utility invoices.
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer).
- Previous experience working with California utilities on new service applications.
- Extensive knowledge of utility requirements for electrical infrastructure related to EV charging.
- Working knowledge of utility procedures, rate tariffs, rules, regulations, and applicable state requirements.
- Understanding of the EV Charging ecosystem (manufacturers, installers, utilities, government agencies).
