The City of Saskatoon is hiring a Utility A to join our Water and Waste Operations team. In this role, you will operate a variety of equipment to support essential municipal services under the supervision of the Supervisor VI.
What You'll Do
- Operate various types of equipment including forklift load packer, automated side-loader, rear loader, tandem trucks, front-end loader, garbage compactor, bulldozer, scraper, and patrol.
- Operate light equipment and trucks for site maintenance, snow removal, sanding, and litter control.
- Maintain staff facilities and sheds, including fuel, lube, and fluids areas.
- Maintain, service, and assist in servicing the equipment you operate.
- Assist with training and instructing others on proper operating and servicing procedures.
- Maintain appropriate service records.
- Prevent accidents through orderly traffic direction, screening waste at unloading points, and enforcing posted rules.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Grade 12 education or commitment to obtain a GED within 12 months of hire.
- Five years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Successful completion of, or commitment to complete, a recognized training module for heavy equipment operation.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Learner’s Licence, and ability to obtain a 1A Driver’s Licence within 2 attempts.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, uses, and maintenance for the safe operation of equipment.
- Knowledge of methods for loading, transporting, and unloading refuse, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly and consistently.
- Demonstrated ability to follow all applicable procedures and policies.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to observe, analyze, and instruct other operators.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public and coworkers.
- Ability to assist mechanical and service staff.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
Team & Environment
You will report to the Supervisor VI within the Water and Waste Operations department, part of the Division of Utilities and Environment.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $32.89 CAD (2026 rates)

This is an onsite position.
