McLaren Health Care is hiring a Unit Assistant to play a vital role in supporting nursing unit operations and the delivery of effective patient care at our Mount Clemens, Michigan location. This position is responsible for a variety of administrative and support tasks that ensure efficient communication, accurate data entry, and constant observation of patient monitors.
What You'll Do
- Help patients by responding to intercom requests and obtaining needed services from clinical staff.
- Greet visitors and answer telephone inquiries, relaying information and directing calls appropriately.
- Perform varied administrative tasks including maintaining logs, scheduling, typing, filing, and ordering supplies.
- Complete a variety of computer and data entry functions to support patient care and maintain patient records.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
- Provide constant observation of monitors for assigned patients and ensure appropriate coverage.
- Maintain telemetry equipment, use alarms as directed, and ensure they are functioning properly.
- Report rhythm changes and monitor conditions to the responsible nurse immediately.
- Seek assistance from the responsible nurse in identifying any unusual rhythm.
- Place EKG paper in monitors as needed and report any equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Run and label monitor strips for each assigned patient every shift, with rhythm changes, and as requested.
- Achieve a passing score on annual telemetry re-certification.
- Perform other related duties as required and directed.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of customer service or clerical experience, unless you are a graduate of a relevant medical training program (e.g., Medical Assistant, Unit Coordinator, Nurse Assistant/Aide, Patient Care Technician).
Nice to Have
- Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course.
- One year of clerical experience in the healthcare field.
- An associate degree in a related field.
