ThermoFisher is looking for a UI/UX Product Engineer to turn complex requirements into elegant, user-centered interfaces. In this role, you will be a key member of an Agile Scrum team, acting as both a hands-on engineer and a product owner for UI workflows across handheld devices, desktop software, web platforms, and mobile applications.
What You'll Do
- Partner with end users, product managers, and stakeholders to craft scalable, user-centric designs from product requirements.
- Design and validate UI screens and workflows for handheld device GUIs and companion Windows, Web, or smartphone applications.
- Develop and maintain detailed screen wireframes, UI specifications, and functional documentation to guide development and testing.
- Participate in and maintain visibility into company UxD groups for design consistency across platforms.
- Serve as Product Owner or UI lead within a Scrum team, clearly communicating and prioritizing UI/UX requirements.
- Write thorough user stories and acceptance criteria for UI features and workflows.
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product vision, scope, and delivery timelines.
- Work effectively with both local (Tewksbury) and global engineering, SQA, and product/project teams.
- Facilitate design discussions, provide UI/UX guidance, and coordinate across time zones.
- Produce high-quality documentation including functional specifications, UI logic flows, and interface behavior definitions.
- Communicate complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Present design concepts, prototypes, and workflow rationale to stakeholders and leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field experience.
- 7+ years of proven experience designing UI for handheld devices and Windows/Web-based applications.
- Strong understanding of usability principles, UI patterns, and modern design standards.
- Experience working within an Agile Scrum environment as a product owner, business analyst, UI engineer, or similar role.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, detailed functional specifications and user workflows.
- Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation.
- Ability to work effectively in both local and distributed global teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Balsamiq, Sketch, Adobe Axure) for wireframes and mockups.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (or equivalent) for SVG/icon and splash screen creation.
- Familiarity with software development processes and working directly with engineering teams.
- Experience with issue tracking (e.g., Jira), collaboration software (e.g., Confluence), and large-scale document storage (e.g., SharePoint).
- Background in regulated industries (medical, scientific, industrial).
- Experience with analytical technologies such as XRF or Raman, or a strong desire to learn.
Team & Environment
You will join an Agile Scrum team, collaborating closely with local and global engineering, SQA, and product teams to drive design intent and implementation alignment.

- Compensation: $118,600.00–$147,000.00 annually, with a variable annual bonus.
