About the Role
The Payroll Accountant will manage payroll functions for a defined period, ensuring data accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely disbursement of employee compensation while supporting broader accounting initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly and biweekly payroll for employees across multiple states
- Verify timesheet data for accuracy and completeness before payroll runs
- Reconcile payroll records with general ledger entries
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Maintain up-to-date payroll documentation and employee records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Assist in year-end payroll reporting and W-2 preparation
- Collaborate with HR and benefits teams on payroll-related changes
- Support audits by providing accurate and timely payroll data
- Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly
- Stay current with changes in tax laws and employment regulations
- Assist in implementing payroll system improvements
- Generate recurring and ad hoc payroll reports
- Track and manage wage garnishments and levies
- Ensure proper classification of employee work hours and overtime
- Support onboarding and offboarding payroll setup and final payments
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee financial data
- Assist with payroll journal entries and month-end close activities
- Monitor payroll system alerts and resolve errors
- Coordinate with third-party payroll vendors as needed
