About the Role

The University of Auckland is looking for a Technologist to join the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering. In this full-time, permanent role, you will provide expert technical services to support the teaching and research activities of staff and students, ensuring the operation and compliance of laboratories and equipment.

What You'll Do

  • Provide expert technical services to support teaching and research activities.
  • Contribute technical knowledge and expertise to research and teaching activities.
  • Ensure the ongoing operation and compliance of a vast range of laboratories, research equipment, and teaching facilities.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to equipment, computer software, and infrastructure.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Experience and high-level competency in vibration testing and measurement using specialist equipment.
  • Knowledge of software development, coding, and debugging using LabVIEW and embedded C/C++.
  • Strong expertise in instrumentation of mechanical and electromechanical systems and data acquisition.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM and Matlab Simulink software.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic circuit design.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work proactively, autonomously, and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing demands.
  • A strong focus on health and safety.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in Mechatronics and working in a tertiary environment.
  • Registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) as an Electrical Appliance or Service Technician.

Job Description: Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity Vine – Violence Information Aotearoa – is the national centre for family and sexual violence research and information, based within the Public Policy Institute in the Faculty of Arts and Education. We are looking for a Māori Research Lead to drive te ao Māori knowledge translation and mobilisation across Vine’s programme of work. In this role you will help ensure mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori research is visible, accessible and influential – supporting better responses to violence and improved outcomes for whānau Māori. Working at the interface of research, policy and practice, you will build strong relationships with Māori researchers, practitioners, communities, hapori and other sector partners, while contributing to evidence briefs, reports, webinars and other resources. This is a part-time (0.6 FTE / 22.5 hours per week), fixed-term role for 12 months. The salary range is $87,000 – $107,500 (pro rata for part time hours). While the team is primarily based in Auckland, we welcome applications from elsewhere in Aotearoa. Flexible and remote working can be supported, with some travel to Auckland and Wellington required. This position may be well suited to an early career researcher wanting to grow their impact. The part-time arrangement makes it ideal for someone maintaining other research or sector commitments.
