Nucor seeks a Technical Writer/Illustrator to create, edit, and update high-quality documentation for our products. In this role, you will produce clear, concise manuals, bulletins, and work instructions, working closely with cross-functional teams like engineering and technical support. You will be part of a culture built on teamwork and innovation.
What You'll Do
- Create, edit, and update documentation including installation manuals, owner’s manuals, service bulletins, work instructions, and other resources.
- Create illustrations like exploded views, parts lists, and cutaway drawings based on engineering drawings and CAD models.
- Communicate with internal departments to build an in-depth understanding of products and documentation requirements.
- Produce high-quality documentation that meets internal style guides, applicable standards, and the intended audience.
- Modify and maintain document development and long-term storage architecture.
- Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
What We're Looking For
- 2-5 years of experience in technical writing or equivalent.
- An Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or four to ten years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of technical communication standards, practices, and style, with advanced writing skills and strong grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- A hands-on attitude to learning high-speed doors, including the ability and willingness to work at height.
- Ability to use hand and power tools as required for verifying procedures.
- Ability to travel occasionally (4 times per year, typically local) for site visits.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with the proven ability to problem-solve, troubleshoot, and manage multiple diverse projects.
- Superb judgment, integrity, excellent decision-making skills, and a bias to action.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and/or the general public.
- Mathematical ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Nice to Have
- CAD or 3D modeling experience (SolidWorks 2023 preferred).
- SolidWorks Composer 2023 experience.
- Mechanical experience and knowledge.
