STERIS is seeking a Supervisor, Sterile Processing to provide onsite support, training, and leadership for sterile processing operations at contracted healthcare facilities. In this role, you will coordinate day-to-day operations, manage staff, and ensure the proper processing of surgical instruments. This position requires 100% domestic travel.
What You'll Do
- Provide supervision and leadership for the Sterile Processing Department on your assigned shift at a contracted facility.
- Manage workflow, maintain staffing schedules (including evenings, weekends, and holidays), and ensure on-time delivery to the Customer.
- Conduct monthly meetings with direct reports to provide feedback, hold them accountable to performance expectations, and support their development.
- Partner with leadership to address employee concerns and drive engagement activities.
- Support the scheduling of new employee orientation, on-the-job training, and quality assurance programs in collaboration with the manager.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching of Customer employees as required by the contract.
- Oversee daily operations related to the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and storage of reusable medical supplies and instrumentation.
- Perform Sterile Processing Technician responsibilities as needed to meet delivery deadlines.
- Follow chain of command to communicate and resolve identified problems and respond to Customer calls during and after business hours.
- Assist in reviewing documentation to ensure staff adherence to STERIS Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform daily observations to identify opportunities for process and performance improvement.
- Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing standards for universal precautions and personal protective equipment.
- Promote collaboration with Customer physicians, nursing staff, and department heads.
- Work with Education to identify and support developmental training opportunities for employees.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of experience in Sterile Processing.
- 1+ years of experience in leadership (supervisor level or above with direct reports) OR 2+ years of lead experience.
- CRCST or CBSPD Certification and an additional certification (e.g., instrument specialist, flexible endoscope, healthcare leader) required. If not certified at hire, both must be obtained within 12 months.
- Ability to comply with hospital/customer credentialing requirements.
- If assigned to travel, a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and availability to drive as needed.
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
- Good working knowledge of instruments and OR operations to understand and address issues.
- Ability to act as a resource for SPD and OR staff regarding specialty instrument trays.
- Ability to train staff in all SPD procedures.
- Ability to schedule and maintain department productivity within set budget constraints.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environment and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work alternate shifts as necessary.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited two-year college or technical school.
- Current Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM).
- Experience using instrument tracking software.
- Knowledge of MS Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software programs.
- Union experience (for Travel assignments).
