Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is looking for a Staff UX Designer to shape digital services that make a direct impact on how people access essential government and community programs. You'll join a multidisciplinary environment, partnering with designers, engineers, researchers, and policy experts to deliver inclusive, accessible, and human-centered solutions.
What You'll Do
- Lead the planning, roadmap, and governance of a code-based design system, ensuring alignment across design, engineering, and product teams.
- Manage design system documentation, contribution workflows, versioning, and long-term maintenance models.
- Design accessible and inclusive experiences from concept to delivery, while contributing to unified interaction patterns and design standards.
- Collaborate with researchers to conduct usability testing and incorporate findings into design improvements.
- Facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, and cross-functional collaboration to solve complex service design challenges.
- Provide mentorship to junior designers, raise the overall quality of design outputs, and foster a culture of accessibility and excellence.
- Advocate for design in strategic discussions, engage with clients, and integrate user-centered insights into broader policy and program decisions.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of experience in product, interaction, or UX design, with a strong portfolio showcasing process and outcomes.
- Specialized expertise in managing or contributing to design systems at scale (3+ years).
- Proficiency with Figma, design tokens, component libraries, and documentation platforms (e.g., Storybook, GitHub).
- Strong understanding of accessibility principles (WCAG 2.1 AA), semantic HTML, and design-to-code handoff.
- Experience in agile development environments and iterative design practices.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines, facilitate remote workshops, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring designers and leading small to medium projects from planning to delivery.
Nice to Have
- Experience in civic tech, public sector design, or fluency in multiple languages.

- Annual compensation range: $128,945 – $157,850 (offer targets vary by market/location).
