Responsibilities

- Own the reliability, performance, and security of core database systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize database usage and query efficiency
- Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to data storage and access
- Develop tooling and automation to streamline database operations and reduce manual toil
- Contribute to capacity planning and disaster recovery strategies for data infrastructure
- Enforce data consistency, integrity, and compliance across environments
- Evaluate and integrate new database technologies and storage engines
- Mentor engineers and promote best practices in database design and operations
- Drive initiatives to improve observability and monitoring of database health
- Support secure access controls and data encryption standards
- Work closely with platform and security teams to align with organizational standards
- Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis for database-related outages
- Improve backup, replication, and failover mechanisms
- Ensure database systems meet scalability and uptime requirements
- Participate in on-call rotations for critical system support
- Document architecture decisions and operational procedures
- Optimize cost-efficiency of database infrastructure at scale
- Contribute to internal frameworks that abstract database complexity for developers
- Advance automation for provisioning, patching, and configuration management
- Promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Evaluate performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Support migration efforts between database versions or platforms
- Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards
- Foster collaboration between infrastructure and application engineering teams
