Oregon Health & Science University is hiring a Staff Scientist to join the Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy (CECGT). This position provides advanced scientific expertise in genetics, epigenetics, transcriptomics, genome editing, sequencing, and bioinformatics to support the Center's research and clinical initiatives. You will play a central role in advancing our research portfolio focused on the biology of gametes, embryos, and pluripotent stem cells.
What You'll Do
- Conduct advanced research in gamete, embryo, stem cell, and molecular biology, including gamete and embryo micromanipulation and genome editing.
- Perform molecular and genomic analyses, including whole-genome, exome, and mitochondrial DNA sequencing using short- and long-read platforms.
- Conduct protein analyses, prepare media and reagents, maintain laboratory organization, and perform animal handling.
- Assist in experimental planning, study design, and optimization of protocols.
- Develop, maintain, and update experimental records, laboratory protocols, and standard documentation.
- Assume scientific leadership and responsibility for designated Center research projects.
- Prepare descriptive and analytical reports for manuscripts, grant applications, progress reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Analyze experimental and genomic data, generate high-quality graphical representations, and contribute to writing scientific manuscripts.
- Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings.
- Participate in education, training, and outreach activities, representing the Center professionally.
- Organize, curate, and maintain research datasets and databases, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Extract, analyze, and interpret genomic and epigenomic data from high-throughput sequencing experiments.
- Develop, maintain, and apply bioinformatics pipelines and analytical workflows.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging sequencing technologies and bioinformatics advances.
- Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with the preparation, submission, and maintenance of IBC, IACUC, and IRB protocols.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of Center staff, students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Coordinate the purchase, maintenance, and oversight of laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Support the Center Director in staff recruitment and onboarding activities.
What We're Looking For
- A Doctoral degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant post-doctoral work experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant research experience in reproductive and genetic biology.
- Demonstrated independent proficiency in gamete and embryo micromanipulation, genome editing, pluripotent stem cell culture, molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics, and sequencing technologies.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
- Proven ability to independently design studies, manage and analyze complex datasets, and publish findings, including proficient use of data spreadsheets, statistical software, and bioinformatics tools.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects, and coordinate activities with Center staff and collaborators.
- Excellent laboratory management and organizational skills, with careful attention to detail and adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Nice to Have
- A Doctoral degree in a relevant field and 7+ years of gamete, embryo, and stem cell research experience.
- A degree in OBGYN, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Public Health, Biology, or Zoology with experience in primate embryo and ESC culture, molecular biology, and physiology.
